Siruvani Reservoir and its forested hills, Coimbatore's gravity-fed water source

Smart water solutions in Coimbatore Siruvani by gravity, Pilloor by pump, borewells hard

Coimbatore's two lifelines behave differently: Siruvani flows down from the hills by gravity, while Pilloor has to be pumped. When either falls short, homes and mills lean on hard borewell water, and we help you manage all three.

How water reaches you in Coimbatore

Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation draws its drinking water from two schemes: Siruvani, which reaches the city by gravity from a dam in the hills, and Pilloor on the Bhavani, which is pumped, with the third Pilloor scheme alone supplying 178 MLD. A weak monsoon still bites; in August 2026 Siruvani supply was cut from 65 to 55 MLD. Groundwater is often hard, with high conductivity around Vadavalli, Singanallur and Podanur. From RS Puram to Saravanampatti, we automate tanks, treat hard water, run multi-pump systems for mills and track metered use in the app.

  1. Step 1

    Hill reservoirs

Siruvani dam stores monsoon rain in the hills west of the city, while the Pilloor schemes draw from the Bhavani.

  2. Step 2

    Gravity and pumping

Siruvani water reaches Coimbatore entirely by gravity; Pilloor water is treated and pumped, including 178 MLD from the third scheme commissioned in 2024.

  3. Step 3

    Corporation network

The corporation's mains and service tanks distribute it, and its 24x7 water supply project bills metered connections on readings taken every two months.

  4. Step 4

    Your sump

Supply fills the sump, a pump lifts it to the overhead tank, and a borewell covers the gaps in dry months.

  5. Where we take over

    Your tank, automated

Sensors read every tank, an APCON controller runs and protects the pump, and the app shows it all on your phone.

What Coimbatore throws at your water system, and the fix for each

Supply that shrinks in a weak monsoon

In August 2026 TWAD cut Siruvani supply to the city from 65 MLD to 55 MLD, with the dam at 26.7 feet against a full level of 50 feet. In past dry spells the corporation has supplied Siruvani water on alternate days and considered moving to once in four days.

How we fix it

A motor driver with level sensing fills your overhead tank whenever the sump has water and shuts off before the pump runs dry, so irregular supply never needs someone at the switch.

Hard, high-TDS borewell water

CGWB found total hardness above permissible limits in about 39% of district samples, with electrical conductivity above 2,250 microsiemens per cm in parts of Vadavalli, Singanallur and Podanur. Water like this scales geysers, taps and process equipment quickly.

How we fix it

We install softeners and multigrade filters for household and process water, and RO where drinking water comes from a borewell.

Mills that need steady pressure

Coimbatore is a textile city and a long-standing centre of pump and motor making, and its units run demanding process-water lines. A single fixed-speed pump rarely matches a load that changes through the shift.

How we fix it

Our multi-pump controller runs up to six pumps as one system with VFD and PID control, holding pressure steady and sharing duty so no single pump wears out first.

Metered water, visible waste

The corporation's 24x7 water supply project, run with SUEZ, bills metered consumption read every two months. An overflowing tank or a hidden leak now shows up on the bill.

How we fix it

The Devyami app logs tank levels and pump run time and alerts you to overflows and sudden drops, so leaks are caught before the next meter reading.

Pleasant winters, reliable sun

Coimbatore has a semi-arid climate with modest rainfall, so sunshine is dependable for much of the year. Mornings turn pleasant and cooler from November to January, when hot-water demand rises.

How we fix it

A solar water heater sized for your family or hostel covers most days, with a heat pump as backup for cloudy spells and peak demand.

Through the year

Coimbatore's water, season by season

Summer

The dry months before the monsoon are when Siruvani storage dips and borewells work hardest, so automatic filling and dry-run protection pay off.

Monsoon

The southwest monsoon fills Siruvani in the hills, while the city itself gets most of its rain from the northeast monsoon later in the year.

Winter

November to January brings pleasant, cooler mornings, ideal conditions for solar water heaters with heat-pump backup.

Watch it run

Watch a building in Coimbatore run its own water

This is the same diagram our customers see in the app. The sump and the overhead tank are both sensed, and one APCON controller decides when the pump runs.

  • The pump starts when the overhead tank is low, but only if the sump has water to give
  • It stops at your full level, so the tank never overflows
  • Dry run, overload and voltage faults trip it before the motor is damaged
  • Your phone shows each level, each pump run and each alert as it happens

Questions from Coimbatore

What people here ask us

Our house in Vadavalli has hard borewell water. What do you recommend?

Test first; usually the answer is a whole-house softener, with RO only for drinking water if TDS is high. Softening stops the scale that ruins geysers, taps and washing machines, and we service the system so the resin keeps working.

Which pump controller suits a textile or engineering unit in Coimbatore?

For process lines with changing demand, a multi-pump controller with VFD and PID control holds pressure steady and shares duty between pumps. For a single borewell or transfer pump, a motor driver with dry-run, overload, voltage and single-phasing protection is the right place to start.

Is solar or a heat pump better for hot water in Coimbatore?

Coimbatore's dependable sunshine makes a solar water heater a strong first choice for homes and hostels. Add a heat pump as backup for cloudy weeks and peak demand, or choose a heat pump alone where terrace space is tight.

Do you install and service Devyami systems in Coimbatore?

Yes. Tell us about your building, society or factory and our engineers design the system around Coimbatore's water. A Devyami dealer or installer then installs, commissions and services it locally, and every connected controller can be checked remotely through our platform. The first site consultation is free.

Will the automation keep working without internet or after a power cut?

Yes. Level switching, pressure control, schedules and every motor protection run inside the controller on your wall, not in the cloud. The internet only carries the live view and alerts to your phone. The controller keeps its own real-time clock and remembers its delays through a power cut.

Can you automate my existing pumps and tanks without new wiring?

Usually, yes. The APCON Motor Driver takes the old starter panel’s place on the wall, on the pump and tanks you already have. Wireless level sensors reach terrace and underground tanks where running a cable would mean breaking walls. A single-pump retrofit is usually done in a few hours.
