Smart water solutions in Guwahati Beside the Brahmaputra, still waiting for the pipe

Guwahati draws on the Brahmaputra, yet much of the city still runs on borewells and private tankers while long-delayed supply schemes are completed. We keep your water steady in the meantime.

From source to your tap

How water reaches you in Guwahati

Guwahati takes its water from the Brahmaputra, through GMC's older schemes at Panbazar, Satpukhuri and Kamakhya and the newer Guwahati Jal Board and JICA-funded projects. The South-Central scheme now reaches over 83,000 households, but piped water still reaches only about 30 per cent of homes. The rest rely on borewells, wells and tankers, CGWB rates major parts of the city as semi-critical, and in dry spells some pumps lose the water table altogether. Add iron and fluoride in pockets and flash floods in Anil Nagar and Nabin Nagar, and you have what Devyami's controllers, filters and pumps are built for.

  1. Step 1

    Brahmaputra intakes

River water is drawn through jackwell intakes on the Brahmaputra, including a new one in the West Kamakhya area for the South-West scheme.

  2. Step 2

    Treatment plants

It is treated at plants such as the one at Sadilapur near Saraighat bridge and at GMC's older works, then pumped to storage reservoirs.

  3. Step 3

    Zone networks

Each scheme feeds its own zone, from GMC's central networks to the Jal Board's South-Central and North Guwahati projects, and coverage is still being filled in.

  4. Step 4

    Borewell, tanker, tank

Where the pipe has not arrived, a borewell or a private tanker fills the sump, and a pump lifts it to the overhead tank.

  5. Where we take over

    Your tank, automated

Sensors read every tank, an APCON controller runs and protects the pump, and the app shows it all on your phone.

What Guwahati throws at your water system, and the fix for each

Pumps that lose the water table

In the dry months of March to May, household pumps in parts of Guwahati fail because the water level drops beyond their reach, and deep borewells have been reported running dry in Six Mile, Jyotikuchi, Survey and Panjabari. CGWB has classified major parts of the city as semi-critical for groundwater extraction.

How we fix it

An APCON motor driver senses dry running and stops the pump before it burns, retries after a set interval and protects against voltage faults, while tank sensors make sure every litre the borewell gives goes into storage.

Iron and fluoride in pockets

CGWB notes slightly higher iron in sporadic patches and fluoride above the permissible limit in some pockets in and around Guwahati, and advises treating such water before drinking. In Maligaon, residents have been reported filtering high-iron groundwater through stone, charcoal and sand in their own tanks.

How we fix it

Devyami replaces the home-made filter bed with a proper iron-removal and multigrade filter for the whole house, plus an RO plant with an RO controller for drinking water where fluoride shows up in testing.

A network still being completed

In July 2026 the JICA-funded South-Central and North Guwahati schemes were around 96 per cent complete, the South-West project about 72 per cent, and the South-East project only 17 per cent with a 2029 target. Until they are finished, most households make do with borewells, wells and private tankers.

How we fix it

The Devyami app tracks sump and tank levels from any source, alerts you when storage runs low and logs when municipal water actually arrives, so you can plan tanker orders instead of reacting to dry taps.

Flash floods within hours of rain

Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar and Rukmini Nagar are among the city's chronically waterlogged areas, and a cloudburst-like spell of about 120 mm in a few hours has swamped large parts of Guwahati. At the end of May 2025, Chandmari, Zoo Road, Rukminigaon, Hatigaon and Beltola were among the areas inundated for more than two days.

How we fix it

Float-switch dewatering pumps clear basements, lift pits and ground-level sumps as water comes in, and we install panels above the flood line so pumps restart cleanly once the water recedes.

Cool, damp winter mornings

CGWB records winter night temperatures of about 8–15°C in the Guwahati area, with days of 15–25°C. Hot water for bathing becomes a daily need through the winter months.

How we fix it

A heat pump water heater gives homes, hostels and hotels plentiful hot water on far less power than electric geysers, solar water heaters suit sunny rooftops, and our heat pump controller manages the schedule.

Watch it run

Watch a building in Guwahati run its own water

This is the same diagram our customers see in the app. The sump and the overhead tank are both sensed, and one APCON controller decides when the pump runs.

  • The pump starts when the overhead tank is low, but only if the sump has water to give
  • It stops at your full level, so the tank never overflows
  • Dry run, overload and voltage faults trip it before the motor is damaged
  • Your phone shows each level, each pump run and each alert as it happens

Questions from Guwahati

What people here ask us

Our borewell pump in Six Mile runs dry every April. What can we do?

Fit an APCON motor driver with dry-run protection so the pump shuts off instead of burning when the water drops, and retries after a set interval. Add level sensors and the IoT app and you will see exactly when yield falls, which helps you decide in time whether to deepen the borewell or book tanker water.

How do we remove iron from borewell water in Maligaon?

An aeration and iron-removal filter followed by a multigrade filter clears iron for the whole house, without the stone-and-charcoal beds many homes still use. Because fluoride also turns up in pockets around Guwahati, Devyami tests first and adds an RO plant with an RO controller for drinking water if needed.

We have a new Jal Board connection but kept our borewell. How do we run both?

Let a controller decide. An APCON twin motor driver runs the municipal-sump pump and the borewell pump with shared duty, filling the overhead tank from whichever source has water, while level sensors prevent overflow. The IoT app then shows how much each source contributes.

Do you install and service Devyami systems in Guwahati?

Yes. Tell us about your building, society or factory and our engineers design the system around Guwahati's water. A Devyami dealer or installer then installs, commissions and services it locally, and every connected controller can be checked remotely through our platform. The first site consultation is free.

Will the automation keep working without internet or after a power cut?

Yes. Level switching, pressure control, schedules and every motor protection run inside the controller on your wall, not in the cloud. The internet only carries the live view and alerts to your phone. The controller keeps its own real-time clock and remembers its delays through a power cut.

Can you automate my existing pumps and tanks without new wiring?

Usually, yes. The APCON Motor Driver takes the old starter panel’s place on the wall, on the pump and tanks you already have. Wireless level sensors reach terrace and underground tanks where running a cable would mean breaking walls. A single-pump retrofit is usually done in a few hours.
